For those who just started following my series, this is where I share my favorite book of the year. We have been working backwards in time, and this is already my fourth post in this series. By sure to check out the other three for more books!

And, without further ado, let’s get into the eighties, a time of denim and really bad perms.

1989

I just read this book this year, and I absolutely loved it. I have read Kazuo Ishiguro’s debut novel, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as this one. But this novel is so beautiful! It tells the story of an old butler who is reminiscing about his past through WWII and before. There is also a movie adaptation of it, which stars Anthony Hopkins. I have not watched it yet, mostly because I’m afraid I’m not going to like it as much as the book.

1988

This is definitely a gruesome book to read, but the characters are just so perfect! I’ve read several other books by Harris, but I haven’t like any of them. However, this one captures the evil within human nature perfectly.

1987

This is one of those books you want to read purely to make you laugh. It’s a collection of people making silly mistakes when writing English. As someone who frequently makes ridiculous typos, I can relate to it completely.

1986

I’ve mentioned this book a few times on my blog and it’s one of the few books I own that I have read more then a few times (I rarely reread books). I kind of wish that a live action which was close to the book would be released. But, come to think of it, if Hollywood made it, they would ruin it anyway.

1985

Anyone who doesn’t know of this book is really missing out! It’s such a creative journey. This was one of my earliest inspirations for being more creative, and helped me get into writing so young.

1984

I was surprised I only read two books from 1984 and out of them, this is my preferred choice. This is the second book in the Alanna series. I really enjoyed this as a teen, though it would probably feel a bit shallow to me now. Still, it’s a fun series.

1983

I would kind of compare this series to Nancy Drew meets the old west. It is about a young girl whose has a miserable home life and solves mysteries after being taken in by a secret family member (I tried not to give too many spoilers for the first book). There are also a few TV movies of this series, but I prefer the books better.

1982

I loved this book, until the ending…I was so disappointed with the open end, I decided not to continue on in the series. However, up until the ending, this book was amazing! It follows two perspectives: a killer assassinating powerful politicians and a young female analyst who is trying to catch him.

1981

This is one of the first, if not first, book I ever read. It brings back so many memories seeing the cover. I wonder if my family still has that copy of this book…I should check.

1980

This is a series told from the perspective of a dog who is head of “Ranch Security.” It’s like a combination of noir mystery and old western…with animals as all the characters. I loved this series when I was younger and I reread the first book recently. I was happy to find it was just as good as I remembered it.

I’m pretty sure I said this last month, but doing these posts is bringing me back memories of books I haven’t read in years. I need to go back and reread some of these books.
