So, it’s been one week since I started this challenge (one I created myself on impulse). And things have been…rocky. I blame Thanksgiving and sickness.
I started Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky first, probably because I thought it would be the most challenging. And I’m currently only 170 pages out of 521. That’s pretty dismal…
I also started The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer this week, since it’s a much more difficult read, being in poetry form (a lot like reading Shakespeare, actually). In that, I’m only 31 pages out of 512.
I should have gotten at least 500 pages done this week, but I only got about 200 finished. Why? Well, for multiple reasons.
First, I got sick. I will refer to it as a head cold, since it wasn’t exactly a typical cold. I just felt super tired and felt congested in my head. Just walking up one set of stairs felt like running a marathon (not that I’ve ever run a marathon, but I can imagine). I didn’t even feel like leaving the house for three days straight. Luckily, I had all my blog posts prewritten, or I probably wouldn’t have been up to writing the Bel Canto review. Fortunately, I started to feel better on Thanksgiving.
Which brings me to my second shameless excuse. I had to celebrate Thanksgiving, which this year meant driving nearly an hour to spend it with my grandparents. It was fun, but it left me very little time to do actual reading.
So, this week did not go super well, but I’m only one week in and I’m determined to get a lot more reading done this coming week!
And I’m curious, how many pages a day do you read on average? I know it depends for me. Some books I whiz through, while others take forever. Let me know your thoughts down in the comments, follow my blog for more madness and, as always,
Best wishes in your life full of adventure,
Madame Writer
Oh, good thing it didn’t last for ages, like some colds do!
I’ve prob talked about this before, hit me if I have? 😀 I read super slow. I used to read pretty fast when I was younger, and I kinda prided myself on it. But these days, I think slow reading is best, since I need time to process all the thoughts I get from my reading. If I read any faster, I’m afraid I wouldn’t remember anything about it afterwards! 😀

I suppose we all change over the years as readers, both in what we read and how we read it. And I love being able to process a good story too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Alice!

Thank you! I’m still a bit under the weather, but more because of my horrible diet the last week!

I read multiple books, and try and read about 100 a day from each of them. This plan doesn’t always work out, but 100 is the goal. When I read a book that is lengthy I place a little post-it note at every 100th page. When I read those 100 pages it feels I’ve achieved the goal for that day.

Wow, that’s impressive! 100 pages a day is a good goal.
