Quatern
(“A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It is similar to the Kyrielle and the Retourne. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fourth line of stanza four. A quatern has eight syllables per line. It does not have to be iambic or follow a set rhyme scheme.”) (source)
Spring is Here!
Spring has descended upon earth
The buds have sprung onto tree boughs
Hedgehogs stick their heads out of holes
A precious gift to see earth alive
When all hope is lost in the cold
Spring has descended upon earth
Chilling snow melts in blinding sun
Chirping birds greet the warmth with song
Soon the beaches will be busy
People who go on vacations
Spring has descended upon earth
But summer will soon engulf it.
Heat will come and then quickly leave
Fall will strip the grand trees again
Snow will cover the dead and then
Spring has descended upon earth.
(Spring is here!!!!! And it’s beautiful. The snow is melting and the birds are extremely loud! For those of you from warmer climates, spring probably means very different things, but for me, this is spring.)
