Anti TBR Book Tag

I saw this book tag on Jesse the Reader the other day and I knew I had to do it! It’s a TBR Book Tag for the books you would never read. It was originally created by Nicole and her Books, so props to her for creating this great tag!

Before getting into these questions, remember that my Wednesday post comes out the previous Saturday in video form, so if you don’t feel like reading this post, just watch the video! On double speed if you want…because that’s what I do.

Anyway, now let’s get into the questions!

1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1)

I know, it’s a contentious choice, but there are several reasons I don’t see myself ever reading it. One, I don’t like sex and purely power-hungry characters. Two, I have a bad track record of finishing epic fantasy books, and I don’t see myself taking the time to read this entire series. Especially when it’s not even finished. So yeah…probably won’t read this.

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

Lady Chatterley's Lover

This book, I believe, is about a sexually reprised married woman who has an affair with her gardener. Sounds stimulating…anyway. I have zero interest reading this book and considering how many amazing classics are out there, I don’t see why I would ever waste my time reading it.

3. An author whose books you have no interest in reading?

The Duke and I (Bridgertons, #1)

I would say in general I don’t have much interest in mass market romance novels, and Julia Quinn is just the first author who comes to mind when I think of predictable romance. So many romance books are pretty much the same, so I can’t see myself ever reaching for one of her books.

3.2 A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?

*you can combine questions 3 & 3.2 or you can answer them separately if you have an answer for both*

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)

Do I really need to explain why I’ll never read this book? Abusive relationship, poor writing, and I try not to hate-read books.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

Safe Harbour

I did a taste test of Danielle Steel’s books (feel free to read it), and I wasn’t a fan of most of the books. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever want to read one of her books again, even if this book, Safe Harbour, was pretty good.

5. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

Modern Memoirs

Most modern memoirs seem to be about celebrities complaining about how hard their life is and trying to be relatable. Sure, there are amazing memoirs out there, but most are pretty bad.

6. A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread)

The Only Good Indians: A Novel

I don’t buy books if I don’t intend to read them, but I did get this from the library, start it, and then DNFed it almost immediately. It just wasn’t my type of book and I didn’t like the writing.

7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)

I did a rant review for this book when it came out a couple years ago, and I have no interest in continuing this series. I know so many people love it, but I definitely didn’t.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading?

Ready Player Two (Ready Player One, #2)

This is the second book, and came out yesterday. I have no interest in reading this one or the series’s first book. I don’t like books filled with too many obscure references, and some reviewers I usually agree with didn’t like it. So I’m skipping this series.

What are some of your answers to this tag? As always, I’m not tagged and I’m not tagging anyone, but I would love to read your answers if you decide to do it! Do you love any of these books and think I should give them a second chance? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments, follow my blog for more musings and, as always,

Best wishes in your life full of adventure,

Madame Writer

  1. All of these books I have no interest whatsoever in reading either. I wasn’t planning doing any tags in a foreseeable future, but this tag is so tempting! I don’t think I can resist doing it (maybe also because it has hints on negative reviews that I secretly love writing hehe).
