I was supposed to post a book review today (namely, Great Expectations), but unfortunately I’m still not done with it. So I’m throwing up this post today and then (let’s hope) I’ll post the book review on Saturday.
So, I used to anticipate books coming out more, but this year I really haven’t cared that much. For those who have been following my blog for a while, you may recall I used to do this series called “Books I’m Excited For…”. I only did it for about three months before I realized I was putting too much reliance on new books coming out instead of trying to read the books already on my TBR
However, I do still want to look at my favorite authors who are coming out with new books. This will not be a monthly thing, and probably just a yearly thing. Since you are probably sick of my rambling about my own problems, let’s get right into my list.

The Victory Garden by Rhys Bowen
Release: February 12, 2019
Even after I was burned by Bowen’s last mediocre book The Tuscan Child (my full review), I really am looking forward to this book, which follows Emily Bryce during WWII, as she falls in love with a pilot, loses her lover, and tries to help the war effort by creating a victory garden after she finds the journals of a medicine woman who was passionate about her herbal garden. It seems to be a heartwarming historical story, so I have high hopes for it! And I usually do love Bowen’s stories, so I’m almost certain I’ll like this one.

A Beautiful Corpse (Harper McClain #2) by Christi Daugherty
Release: March 12, 2019
I read the first book of this series, The Echo Killing (my review), earlier this year. I’m not a massive fan of thrillers, but I really liked the first book, both due to the setting and the protagonist Harper McClain. So I want to read this book. It follows Harper investigating the death of a young woman by a mysterious shooter, set in Savannah. The plot doesn’t sound super interesting, but because I liked the first book, I want to give it a go.

Death of a New American (Jane Prescott #2) by Mariah Fredericks
Release: April 9, 2019
Like my previous entry, I read the first book of this series earlier this year, called A Death of No Importance (my review), and I mostly enjoyed it. The series follows Jane Prescott, a ladies’ maid in New York City. After an Italian American nursemaid, and a friend of Jane’s, is murdered, she investigates the death, which may be tied to the Italian mafia in America. It sounds super interesting. Now, I didn’t love the first book (I gave it three stars), but it was good enough for me to want to read more.

Murder on Trinity Place (The Gaslight Mysteries #22) by Victoria Thompson
Release: April 30, 2019
Yes, I am a massive fan of the Gaslight series! I did a review on the entire series a while back, so it shouldn’t be a surprised that I’m excited about this latest book, centering around the murder of one of Frank and Sarah Mallory’s neighbors. Even if this series is rather repetitive and predictable, I love it so much! It’s one of those rare series that I’ll probably never stop reading, even if it’s on Book 50.

Love and Death Among the Cheetahs (Her Royal Spyness #13) by Rhys Bowen
Release: August 6, 2019
Is anyone surprised that two of Rhys Bowen’s books are on this list? Well, I’m not. I love this series, following the eccentric Georgie and the murders which follow her in the 1930s. In this book Georgie and Darcy are finally married and on their honeymoon in Kenya. Unfortunately, death always follows after Georgie, and you know someone is going to get murdered. I am so excited for this book!
The Alienist at Armageddon (Dr. Laszlo Kreizler #3) by Caleb Carr
Release: September 1st, 2019
This book does not have a cover yet. I read the first book of the series, The Alienist (1994), a few months ago (my review) and I thought it was an exceptionally written book! Saying that, I was planning on reading the second book of the series, The Angel of Darkness (1997) and I noticed this book was coming out. I am super excited, because it has been twenty years since the last book of the series was released. This one, apparently, is set during WWI, so it’s probably set twenty years after the last book. I am excited that the series isn’t over and I’m curious to see how the characters are when they are older. I do, however, need to read the second book before this one comes out!
So, there is my list for books I’m excited for in 2019. Most of them are historical mysteries, I know, but that is my favorite genre. What books are you looking forward to in 2019? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments, follow my blog for more madness and, as always,
Best wishes in your life full of adventure,
Madame Writer
The Victory Garden seems to be right up my alley! I like heartwarming stories! I’m reading I’m a stranger myself by Bill Bryson. Though it introduces the author’s life in America about 20 years ago, it is still interesting! I think I need to learn the sense of humor from Bill Bryson Lol😆

I love Bill Bryson, though I haven’t read that particular book. He wrote a book about Shakespeare, which was super interesting! I really want to read more books by him. And yes, I’m excited to read The Victory Garden too!
