My Favorite Halloween Songs

No October would be complete without listening to some Spooktober-themed music. So I compiled a short list of the songs that I often set on repeat during this month! These probably aren’t the typical songs you see on Halloween song lists…but let’s go anyway.

Don’t Fear The Reaper (The Spiritual Machines)

This song is from my mother’s time, but this new cover sounds so haunting. I just love it!

Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven)

A classic but one with a haunting sound. I was surprised to learn that this song was retitled Moonlight Sonata after Beethoven’s death. The original title was “Quasi una fantasia” (Italian for “almost a fantasy”). Interesting. This, by the way, is only the 1 movement, and the most famous one.

Mademoiselle Noir (Erutan)

This singer is truly haunting. She has a lot of songs similar to this one, including a cover of Come Little Children from Hocus Pocus. But this song is probably my favorite, though it is rather sad.

Bad Moon Rising (Mourning Ritual)

Another song originally from the 1970s, this song was actually featured in The Walking Dead. It’s truly creepy and Peter Dreimanis’s voice sends chills through you.

Everything’s Gonna Be Alright (The Chipmunks)

Yes, I know I am weird. I grew up loving this movie, especially this song at the end of the movie. Even now I may put in on repeat if I’m feeling like it. I do it more for the nostalgic factor, I think.

Calling All the Monsters (China Anne McClain)

I usually am adverse to new Disney songs (because they suck). However, I actually really like this song. It’s catchy and it’s about monsters, so why wouldn’t I like it?

They’re Coming To Take Me Away (Neuroticfish)

Yes, this is a weird song. It went viral over the internet during the time I was just getting into YouTube (over five years ago). I loved the song, and I still listen to it frequently.

The Devil Went Down to Georgia (The Charlie Daniels Band)

I love this song, both for the true fear of the devil, and the humor in the song. I like a lot of the classic Halloween songs, but this one is by far my favorite. It reminds me of Faust.

Well, there you have it. These are the songs I listen to most around October. Do you know any of these songs? What is your favorite music to listen to for Halloween? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments, follow my blog for more madness and, as always,

Best wishes in your life full of adventure,

Madame Writer

  1. Good list! We don’t really do Halloween in Australia. I used to like “Cemetery” about a guy who goes down to the cemetery looking for love from the album “Picture of Health” by The Headstones, Canadian alternative punk rock band.

    1. I guess Halloween is mostly just an American thing now. I know that a lot of places around the world don’t celebrate it. I haven’t heard of Cemetery but I’ll have to look it up. Thanks for the recommendation!

  2. Great list. I think I only know of Michael Jackson’s Thriller as a Halloween song, so this list will prove useful to me come Halloween, thank you! To get myself in the mood for Halloween, I tend to listen to some spooky film soundtracks, and I particular like music from Psycho (1960), Sleepy Hollow (1999) and The Village (2004).

      1. Do you cook anything special? I like preparing Halloween-inspired cocktails. I know I will have to do Pumpkin Spice Margaritas this year 🙂
