So, apparently shampooing the carpet can throw out your back. I feel like I’m an elderly person instead of young, spry twenty-something. Anyway, due to being in pain all day, I didn’t do anything physical, so I was able to get a lot of writing done. I was in the zone!
Not sure I can keep up these long posts every day, though. I feel as if it’s taking almost as much time to write a daily update as to write the actual book. So, I might confine these daily updates to something shorter. Let me know what you guys would prefer!
Daily Summery
Words written today: 1,912
Total words written: 7,324/50,000
Goal words needed: 4,839/50,000
Difference: 2,485 words ahead of schedule.
Current chapter: Chapter 2 (but I finished this chapter, so technically I’m on 3).
Time spent writing: 2.5 hours
Current weather: It rained all day…so it’ll be probably a very wet 4th of July.
Tips: Don’t worry about adding pointless, boring scenes into your first draft (like detailing a character making breakfast). You can always narrow it down later.
Extra notes: I did a lot of research before writing this book, but now that I’m writing it I realize I knew absolutely nothing. More research, I guess.
I love your tip of the day today. My inner editor sometimes doesn’t let me write or I doubt myself and want to delete/rewrite so to spite my editor I write a long elaborate paragraph about the details of the setting 🙂 Awesome update as always!

Me too! My inner editor loves to pop out when I’m writing. Thanks!

You’re certainly keeping up your word count much better than I have this past week. For your tips, over time I’ve come to agree with it. If you write now and worry about editing later, you can really concentrate on the story. I’ve learned to save editing for editing and writing for writing. And always beware of too much research. While it’s always good to know more, when writing it can truly become never ending.

I agree. For the first draft, usually I save editing for later. As for research, while I definitely try not to keep researching endlessly, there’s certain information I discover I need as I write. But I agree, research is never-ending.
