If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know usually at the beginning of the month I give you guys a list of books I’m anticipating for the next month. I will confess, before I started my blog it was extremely rare for me to anticipate books coming out.
Usually it was only after a book came out that I would even hear that it existed.
However, at the beginning of this year, I really wanted to understand, both as a writer and a reader, what books were being published and hyped in any given year.
But if you’ve followed my blog since January, you might have also noticed that the majority of books I anticipated, I ended up hating—or at the very least finding them just okay.
I found myself putting aside the books I really knew I’d love (from classics like War and Peace to more modern authors like Terry Pratchett) just to read the newest books coming out. And I found myself being really disappointed with the books I was reading.
Let me just say, if you’ve read any of my reviews, you’ll know I tend to be a very opinionated reader and even a book I love has its own failings. But when the negatives outweigh the positives, it’s really straining on a reader. I don’t want to read a book just to give it a rant review.
What I’m trying to say is that I will not be anticipating new books coming out anymore. Saying that, if I see a lot of people giving favorable reviews to a new book, I’ll probably still read it. However, I will not be actively seeking to read the newest, latest books.
Instead, I want to start to cut down on my TBR, a TBR which has been building since I was at least twelve.
If you start to see more reviews for older books, both classics and modern popular books alike, don’t be too surprised.
This post is to more explain my reasoning for moving away from reading and reviewing new releases.
Luckily, there are tons of other blogs which do a much better job than I in anticipating new books. So, there’s that.
This post is shorter than usual, I know, but thought it was important to let you guys know what’s going through my reasoning so you don’t just ask, “Where are the Books I’m Looking Forward To…post?” So, there you go!
Best wishes in your life full of adventure,
