I really struggled writing today. It may have possibly had something to do with the four inches of snow I had to shovel yesterday (the nightmare of living in Minnesota). I woke up today and I did not even want to get out of bed. Usually I do my writing in the morning, but this morning I did not feel like it. In fact, I only finished writing about an hour ago and I only got about 1,200 words day (400 less than I’d been hoping). But it’s certainly better than not doing any writing.
I’ve come to realize something in the last few days about the positives and negatives of NaNoWriMo. On the positive, you get a lot of writing done that you wouldn’t usually do. However, it also seems to force creativity. And, as I’ve learned from years of writing for both school and fun, forcing creativity is never a good thing. Maybe NaNoWriMo is helpful for some people, but for me it seems as if it has a more sloppy effect on my writing. Because I’m looking more towards quantity, the quality suffers.
I’m not saying my book so far is horrible, but I think the rushed way I’m writing it lowers the quality. Just a thought.
What do you think about NaNoWriMo? Do you think maybe a shorter word count would be helpful? Or more than a month’s deadline? I’m curious what you guys think. Let me know down in the comments, I’ll see you tomorrow, and, as always,
Best wishes in your life full of adventure,
