In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Mike Rowe (host of Dirty Jobs), said, “If you really want to make America great again, you’ve got to make work cool again.”
This quote stuck with me, because I really think certain jobs are looked down in our society as being low and undesirable. I work in retail, one of these fields, and I see how hard most of my co-workers work. They go above and beyond, but are given minimal pay for it (both financial and personal). People talk so often about how we should raise the minimum wage. The problem with this is that, if the government raised minimum wage for the average worker, the higher paid workers will get a wage increase as well and prices for everything will rise. Thus, we will be back to where we began.
Instead, I firmly believe respect should be given to everyone in every kind of job, especially those who are hardworking. So, the next time you buy a Starbucks or check out at Walmart, show a little kindness to the people running the jobs most people don’t want. Every job is cool, if you look at it the right way. Just some people suck, and you can’t change that.
